Sketchnotes don't need to be beautiful to be useful. Watch as I walk through my bullet journal in this 21-minute video and share practical examples of everyday sketchnotes.
Thanks, Mike, for an inspiring peek into your daily account of sketchbooks. I need advice on documentation. Would you organize by date? How do you refer back to a specific sketch?
Rajiv, I think I would organize by date and book number. When I produce my bullet journals, I try every month to scan back over the pages and add them to the index if they rise the level of something I might want to refer to later.
Often the index entry will be a general topic that I continually come back to, and the case of work sketches in the log pages. That might look like Project Name: 3, 7, 22, 31 – so that I can find all the pages related to that topic.
I think the part that I need to work out is making a digital master index where this information could appear — likely photographs of the index pages and notes on the book number would probably be the most efficient. You’ve given me the idea to build something like this in my Apple Notes!
Thanks, Dave! I have found for busy weeks when I am likely to fail at being consistent, mapping out all of my days ahead of time with what I can helps avoid the friction of feeling "ach I have to build today's page?" which could be a Sunday ritual over a fave beverage.
I’ve been wanting to add more visual elements to my bullet journal Mike. The daily plan bar will be a great first experiment to create a ritual for sketching at least a few lines everyday. I also like the idea of adding the second page for a daily log to give space for sketches. Thanks for all the personal examples. I really enjoyed spending this time with you.

If you have any ideas, I’m all ears! :-)
Thank you Mike, loved this video and the sparking of ideas. Like the way you used 2 simple colours.....This is the Way!
Thank you, Alex! So pleased you like it.
I really enjoyed this walkthrough, Mike. It almost makes me want to try bullet journaling again… almost. I’m absolute trash at maintaining.

I like the favorite beverage part.
Thanks so much for sharing these pages, Mike - it was really interesting to see them and hear your commentary on your thought processes.
You're welcome, Andy! I have to always remember what may seem normal to me could be an insight for someone else. :-)

Brad, I'm so pleased I could provide insight and inspiration through sharing my work. That's what I hoped for when I recorded this video!
The Daily Plan Bar and Log page were game changers for me. I would say try them and see how they fit your needs. Feel free to adapt!
